Bourtange, the fortress

400 years ago Bourtange was one of the most important fortifications of Northern Holland. You will receive enough time to admire the beautifully restored ramparts, parapets and battlements. There are specialised guides who will give you a tour.

There are historical buildings, such as the captains’ house, the old synagogue, barracks and munitions storage, these can all be viewed.

These surroundings are especially suited for an active afternoon. You can get acquainted with archery and carbine shooting. In addition there is recreation and amusement with competition, involving horseshoe and hayfork throwing.

You will be driven in a luxurious touring car to Bourtange, where upon arrival, you will be greeted with a “welcome beverage”. After about a 30-minute guided tour, you can practice your strength and precision with the above-mentioned activities. It is also possible to enjoy a canoe trip on the moat around the fortress. At approximately 5.45 pm, the fire will be lit for a delicious barbecue in these magnificent historical surroundings.

Departure: 1 pm from Groningen
Arrival: at approximately 9.30 pm you will return to your hotel in Groningen
